Vishing, Don't Fall Prey. Vishing is yet another way criminals try to gain access to your personal information. Using Voice over IP technology through the Internet, criminals can fool your Caller ID by setting up fake phone numbers. They can also set up phony customer service numbers for you to call them back. They pretend to be your financial institution and ask you to verify credit card or other personal information. It may sound like this, "Your account is frozen until information is verified. Please call {phone number} and provide your information so that your account can be re-activated.” Don't fall prey to these tricks. The only way to combat these attackers is to know who you are calling back. Verify the number with trusted sources such as a customer service number on the back of a credit card or from statements or bills. If the number does not match do NOT call it. Contact your financial institutions using only the verified numbers. The credit union will never request personal information in this manner and any solicitation of this nature should always be considered suspicious. If you have any doubt that it is the credit union calling please request their caller's name, then hang up and call our Member Service Center at 888-982-1400 to verify the person calling is really an employee of United Federal Credit Union.
