Our Security Protecting You
At United Federal Credit Union we believe that protecting your information is top priority. We routinely perform forensics analysis on data available from United Federal Credit Union’s systems. Our external and internal systems are under constant 24 hour, 7 days a week security monitoring. United Federal Credit Union employs a full time Information System Security Engineer (CISSP) to combat security breaches.
Why We Use Multifactor Authentication in Online Banking
Multifactor Authentication is the latest buzz in online banking, and you may have heard about it in the news. It is a new security measure that strengthens security at login and helps to protect against online fraud by adding one more layer to the authentication process.
Authentication is the process of verifying the member's identity when accessing our online services. In the past we used only member number and password, which is a single factor authentication process. Enhanced Security requires member number, password and some other type of "key" to complete the login process. By adding this "key" we can help to insure your financial security.
Even Greater Protection
In addition to providing Enhanced Security, United Federal Credit Union also uses a mutual authentication system. Mutual authentication is a process where member identity is authenticated AND www.unitedfcu.com is authenticated to the member.
In recent months a new scam called Phishing has become very prevalent. Phishing is where thieves send an email posing as legitimate company asking for personal and log-in information. Thieves create a webpage that looks very similar to the original company’s in order to collect this sensitive information. These illegitimate web sites are called spoofed sites.
Please be aware that email addresses can be compromised from a variety of sources. External Worms, Spam lists, infected home PCs, and various other sources too numerous to list here. This occurs with greater frequency every year and shows no sign of slowing down.
Please note: You will never get an email from United Federal Credit Union asking you to verify sensitive information or to provide log-in information. The only time you will ever be asked to enter your password through an email is when you receive your eStatement notification. If you get a fraudulent email do not respond to it. Instead, please contact our Member Service Center toll-free at 888-982-1400 to report the fraudulent email.
