In today's technologically advanced world you have to keep both eyes on your financial accounts. Here are some tips and information for you to stay safe and protect yourself against fraud, phishing and other scams.

What is "Phishing"? |
Phishing is where thieves send an email posing as legitimate company asking for personal and log-in information. Thieves create a webpage that looks very similar to the original company’s in order to collect this sensitive information. These illegitimate web sites are called spoofed sites. What is "Vishing"? |
Vishing is yet another way criminals try to gain access to your personal information. Using Voice over IP technology through the Internet, criminals can fool your Caller ID by setting up fake phone numbers. They can also set up phony customer service numbers for you to call them back. ATM PIN Urban Myth |
If you use the Internet, you have probably been exposed to a number of “urban myths” through e-mail chain letters. Here is an example:
If you are at an ATM and wish to report a potentially dangerous situation, you can merely enter your PIN backwards to alert the authorities. This is completely false. Financial institutions in the US have not deployed any technology like this. Entering your PIN backwards will result in nothing more than a denial of your transaction. The best advice for ATM users is to use an ATM in a well-lighted area, complete your transaction quickly, and always be aware of your surroundings. |

Email Fraud |
You will never get an email from or be contacted by United Federal Credit Union asking you to give or verify sensitive information or to provide log-in information. The only time you will ever be asked to enter your password through an email is when you receive your eStatement notification. If you believe a communication to be fraudulent do not respond to it.
